Exciting times at MAK STEM Fest 2025!
We welcomed 135 eager students from Campbeltown Grammar School and Lochgilphead Joint Campus High School to a day filled with exploration, learning, and innovation. While we missed the enthusiastic students from Tarbert High School, their presence was felt in spirit!
A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors — ScottishPower Renewables, BAM Nuttall, SSEN, and Siemens Energy — for making this event possible, covering venue hire, transportation, and lunch. Special thanks to West Coast Motors and MACC for their generous support!
Our six hands-on workshops sparked creativity and teamwork among students:
Bridge Building Challenge with BAM Nuttall saw students working together to construct a 17m bridge, honing their structural engineering skills.
SPOT the Dog let students control a robot, navigating it through an obstacle course, proving just how engaging technology can be!
Energy Farm by Siemens Energy introduced renewable energy concepts through interactive kits, assessing pros and cons for real-world application.
Pond Skater Challenge, by Heart of Argyll Wildlife Organisation, brought design skills to life as students built model creatures that walked on water, learning through trial and error to emulate a pond skater.
Lego Roving Robot, from Argyll and Bute Digital Team, unleashed creativity as students programmed intelligent robots, discovering the essence of AI.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service offered a unique VR experience simulating different fire scenarios, aswell as teaching vital safety lessons first-hand with live demonstrations.
With 21 organisations participating, including Tilhill Forestry, Bakkafrost, SAMS and NHS, the marketplace buzzed with knowledge and opportunity!
