How you can help
Across Argyll and the Highlands record numbers of people are struggling with high energy prices and increases in the cost of living.
The UK government’s ‘energy price guarantee’ figures are based on an average UK household with gas central heating. Many of the homes in the north and west of Scotland are off gas grid and have more expensive forms of heating, or use more than an average amount of energy. This means bills are significantly higher, often twice or three times as much as a home with gas central heating.
One in three households across Argyll and Bute are struggling to heat their homes to a comfortable level and we’re working to reach them all but need the funding behind us to do so. We are inundated with calls for help and advice on staying warm and managing the increased costs of living, particularly energy bills. Budgets are stretched to breaking point and people are facing extreme hardship with some suffering hypothermia and other cold and damp related illnesses in their own homes.
Our advisors can support households in crisis, but we need help to do this. Additional funds enable us to recruit more advisors, extend our services so we can visit those most vulnerable, or supply Cosy Kits and simple energy saving measures that make an immediate difference to those in need.
“Oh my goodness! Aww, I have to tell you—this will have a huge impact. She is so vulnerable and often unwell, and she will be absolutely over the moon. I believe this will greatly enhance her mental health.”
“That’s absolutely incredible. You have no idea the relief this offers my little family.”
