Awarded for the STEM-based work delivered to S1 and S2 pupils at Hermitage Academy, highlighting the value of hands-on, place-based learning that builds skills, teamwork and real-world understanding.

ALIenergy delivers in-school STEM workshops for S1 and S2 pupils across Argyll and Bute. These sessions help young people explore renewable energy, understand its importance locally, and see how STEM skills are used in a changing world.

Each workshop is interactive, practical and built around a focused STEM theme, such as renewable energy. Pupils use hands-on resources to investigate real-world topics, discuss their ideas and connect learning to the places and industries around them.

Explore Argyll and Bute through STEM

Our education team worked with Oban-based designer Dee Rudigar to create a fictional town map inspired by Argyll and Bute’s landscapes and industries, including hills, coastline, fish farms, farmland and distilleries.

Used in school workshops, the map helps pupils explore STEM through practical, place-based learning. Working in teams, they use evidence, discussion and local knowledge to respond to real-world challenges.

Popular with pupils and teachers, the activity sparks creative discussion about how our landscape is used, managed and changing over time.
