Jackie's Journey

Jackie came to us after struggling with debt on his gas prepayment meter. He experiences memory loss and was confused about the type of heating in his flat, mistakenly believing he had electric storage heaters. Damp was also a problem in his flat, with patches on the walls and ceiling. Jackie was nervous about using the cooker and did not own a kettle, so limiting his ability to cook or make hot drinks.

Initial Support and Advice

Jackie did not have a phone, so we arranged a house visit via another supporting agency. After that, we kept in touch via one of his friends, who helped pass on advice. We showed Jackie how to use his heating properly, keep safe from carbon monoxide, cook without worry and deal with the damp and condensation. We also pointed him towards other agencies that could help with income maximisation and welfare rights. ALIenergy got in touch with Jackie’s housing provider about the damp and we encouraged Jackie to talk to his GP about his memory problems and any other health worries.
