ALIenergy’s Biomass & Renewable Heat Services

ALIenergy has been working to promote and support biomass markets in Argyll for many years; delivering advice and education on biomass issues and offering technical support to new and existing wood fuel installations and supply chains – in partnership with Forestry Commission Scotland.

Between January 2009 and March 2010, this work was supported by the Leader Programme, who funded the post of Biomass Development Officer. At this time, the BDO was Bob McIlwraith, who spent a great deal of time and effort in supporting and helping existing wood fuel suppliers and biomass installations, to resolve technical and operational issues and to develop healthy wood fuel markets across Argyll. Clients included Housing Association run Biomass District Heating systems, that served large numbers of houses in schemes; community groups and village halls; local authority and other public sector organisations; businesses such as hotels and guest houses - and individual households. Bob McIlwraith retired in March 2010.

Renewable Heat Development Programme

Since February 2010, ALIenergy has operated a Renewable Heat Development programme in Argyll, covering the whole spectrum of renewable heat technologies. David Docherty is the Renewable Heat Development Officer; he provides advice, support, education and awareness on renewable heat issues and he can offer assistance with sourcing grant and other funding for renewable heat projects. This work is funded by the Highlands and Islands Partnership Programme, Forestry Commission Scotland, Argyll and Bute Council and ALIenergy.
